Here Are Some Safety Guidelines For Babywearing Safely :
Wearing baby positioned upright is best for baby's brain development, breathing, spine development, and visibility. When leaning forward you should be able to easily kiss baby's forehead. Carrying baby upright allows baby to move his or her head easily without having to work against gravity. A carrier needs to come all the way to the back of babies knees, and to the middle of babies shoulder blades in order to be considered properly supporting your babies whole body and spine and nervous system. The legs should be bent with the knees at at least a right angle if not higher to ensure proper hip position and bloodflow for the baby as well as comfort for the wearer over extended babywearing.
Infant Airway Safety Tips (in any carrier, sling, swing, carseat etc.)
Baby should not be curled tight chin to chest because this position partially closes baby’s airway making it difficult to get enough oxygen to the brain. (With correct positioning there should always be at least one finger’s width of space under baby’s chin.) Sling fabric should not be draped across baby’s face. For slings made from thin, airy fabrics please check the airflow of the fabric by placing it over your own nose and mouth. No matter how breathable the fabric looks, if it is difficult for you to breathe through the fabric it will be difficult for baby as well. Baby should not be rolled so that his face is pressed tightly against the parent’s body. Position baby’s face upward when he or she is not actively nursing and when nursing ensure that baby’s nose is not blocked. Airway Distress is marked by the baby making a noise with every breath. If your infant is making a noise when he or she inhales or exhales each time, then they need your help being repositioned.
